When I use the search function, I get a 404 error. I know why this happens ... I have the directory in the mysite/directory folder and not off the main directory.

I've found and fixed this on everything but the search. I can't, however, find the string that I need to change to make the search button reference the correct location...

can someone point me to it?

I fixed the form details in the template, but still get a 404 ... are there some variables in search.php program file that I have to change?

No, you don't have to change core files. Can you provide URL so i cen test it?
